The Presence of Absence
Brian Hegarty was born in Dublin and now lives in Drogheda County Louth. He studied at D.I.T College of Marketing & Design and graduated in 1994. He had his first solo show in the Droichead Arts centre in 2000 and has had four other solo shows within Ireland since then and one in Louisville, Kentucky USA. He has exhibited and been selected for numerous group shows including R.H.A Annual exhibition, Quadrant, Iontas and Scoip. Awards received include studio rental assistance (1999 - 2001), Art flight (2002) and recently he has won a bursary for the Tyrone Guthrie Centre from the Drogheda Borough Council (2005). He is currently working as a scenic artist with the 'Abbey Theatre' in Dublin.
“I decided to get involved with the Landfillart Project because this project was not the usual. It was international, using found objects (hubcaps) and was open to everyone. I recycle materials in my own work. I had a kinship with the project and was drawn to its unusual project of creating a piece of art from an old discarded hubcap.”Brian Hegarty
