Gara received a BFA in painting from the University of Mississippi with additional graduate work in computer image making. She is a photographer, painter and poet. Her childhood growing up in the army traveling around the country continues to inspire her work.
“I wanted to participate in this project because of the issues of waste going into landfills and because of the destruction of trees and land due to man. For me, this project offered a way to show how scraps of decorative tissue paper and the patterned insides of return-mail envelopes could express my concerns about these matters.”Gara Gillentine
