Catherine’s interest in art started while she was in high school. She has worked in all types of mediums (pen & ink, colored pencil, pastels, watercolor, acrylic, and oil) and even experimented in making her own mediums using things found in nature. Catherine taught an art class to inmates in a local state prison. Some of her students were hardened life criminals. Later she taught children and adult art classes at the Wyoming Valley Art League, Wilkes-Barre. PA. She is presently teaching art in a local Montessori school to children from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Catherine received a degree in commercial art. While in college she taught a class in mural painting; in which the class did a design that won a local competition. She has done faux finishing on walls for customers; along with murals for residential and commercial customers and repairs to existing murals. Her work has been exhibited throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania and has won local and national competitions. Catherine is a member of the Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society, Dallas, PA Pocono Mountain Arts Council, Tobyhanna, PA and the Catherine Lorillard Art League, New York. She has been an active member in the Wyoming Valley Art League, Wilkes-Barre, PA since 1997, where she has served on several committees and is a past president. Her business “Silks and Creations by Catherine Laskaris” has created a new outlet for her artwork. She makes hand painted silk items for local shops, and juried fine art craft fairs. She is active in painting all types of surfaces with any type of medium.
"The idea of taking something that would be discarded and making it useful always appeals to me. I teach children and I am always looking for items we can use that will be recycled. I personally try to clean green as much as I can."Catherine Laskaris
