Julie earned her MFA from UCLA and her BA from Barnard College in New York City. Her paintings have won many awards. She is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and is an Arts Path rostered artist in the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Directory of Artists in Education. Her work is included in numerous private and public art collections.
