Joanne is a professional artist and illustrator. Best known for her west coast rainforest paintings and her "bottled women" series, she also has a playful series called "Laughter" in which she uses stencils and acrylic paints. This work is from that series. Thomson is also a professional but nonconforming art teacher with a Masters in adult education. She teaches in the community, the forest and in her own studio.
"When I heard about Landfillart I immediately wanted to participate. It is a great statement about transformation and seeing opportunities where others see waste. Then I found this hubcap near one of my favorite forests and instead of finding a landfill to put it in I was able to transform its purpose. The crows were amused."Joanne Thomson
